Q "Where is the serial number of my WaterRower?"

The position of your serial number is dependant on the model of the machine:

  • Series IV WaterRower models the serial number can be found on a silver sticker behind the monitor (if you do not have a monitor the sticker will be on the right key bracket where the monitor would be).

  • Series III WaterRower models the serial number can be found on silver sticker behind the monitor or on a metal plate positioned on the bottom deck (the horizontal piece of wood glued on top of the tank) directly under the monitor

  • Series I & II WaterRower models the serial number can be found either on the tank, under the seat, or under the footboard.

  • A1 WaterRower models the serial number can be found on a transparent sticker under the tank, stand the machine up to see the sticker.

Q "Where can I find an assembly manual?"

Assembly manuals can be found under Owner Support on the WaterRower website, click here to download an Assembly Manual.

Q" I am finding that I am really my gluteals and hamstrings burn on the WaterRower"?

With regards to your “burning” gluteals and hamstrings, this is a common occurrence in rowers. This can be a result of tight hamstrings and stiff lower back muscles (which can be a result of sitting down for long periods) so focus on stretching your hamstrings, gluteals and lower back muscles before and after your row.

Also at the release/finish of the stroke, concentrate on the rock over of the pelvis with your hands away before moving up the slide. Another option is to maybe turn the seat around on the WaterRower so the lip is at the back because that might be stopping circulation to the legs. (this is a common problem in women).

You can also try using a seat cushion (can be purchased from any rowing stockist or you can make your own with some foam rubber) or wear padded cycling pants this will lift you up on the seat and may make rowing a little more comfortable.

Q "How will rowing improve my fitness?"

Rowing works and tones all three major muscle groups, the legs, the arms and shoulders and the connecting muscles of the torso, because rowing uses a high number of muscle groups there is a lot of improvement in aerobic capacity (lungs & heart function).

Rowing can also be used to develop strength and anaerobic fitness by high intensity low duration anaerobic workouts.

Q "Don't you have to be really fit to row?"

Only if you intend to compete in the next Olympics!  But like all naturally performed aerobic exercises, rowing can be as strenuous as you want it to be.  It may require no more effort than a gentle walk or as much as an Olympic regatta.

Q "I am 20 stone in weight will that be a problem on the WaterRower?"

Each of the load wheels supporting the seat contain eight bearings. These bearings give a design load of over two tonne (2000 kg, 4400 lbs) at 30,000 rpm (which equates to something like a stroke rate of 600 spm).

The wooden frame is designed to flex, utilizing the natural quality of wood to avoid any stress or fatigue build up. A metal frame by contrast will have stress build up (usually at the welded joint) and will fatigue
to failure.

Twenty stone should therefore be no problem.

Q "Where should my footstraps be?"

We recommend that the foot straps should be over the toes (where they join to the foot). Most users find having a lower foot position more comfortable.

Q "What is the recommended water level in the tank?"

Tank level recommendation when starting out for:

1) children = level 12-14

2) women = level 14-16

3) men = level 16-18

After 4-6 weeks of regular rowing, these levels can be increased up a level, after which you should focus on increasing your speed/ intensity.

Q "Can my 10 year old son use the WaterRower?"

Yes, children of any age can use the WaterRower. Most children can pick up the rowing technique quite naturally, however supervision is advised.
